Update at 5:45 p.m.: Democrats just voted on the convention floor to amend their platform to include a reference to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The new language reads: "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.”
Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown on Wednesday called it “confusing and a little bit troubling” that the Democratic National Committee omitted language from the Democratic Party platform affirming Jerusalem as the capital ofIsrael.
The Weekly Standard first reported Tuesday that the platform made no mention of Jerusalem. Democrats had removed the language written in their 2008 platform, stating: “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.” [Read more]
