Victoria, dear, please calm down. You are catching a Russian version of Bush derangement syndrome. President is not without his faults, but don't you think you are going overboard. Could you remember who blew up Twin Towers? Hint -- it was not President Bush. Another hint -- the perpetrators shared religion with Chechens, so beloved by Russian intelligentsia.

A nasty words you used to describe Annapolis; "Rice raped Israel". I would believe rather that Bush raped Rice, than Rice did it to Israel. Bush is dagerous. Even more, than Putin: Putin is destroying just one nation,- the Chechens; Bush destroyed already two nations--Afghans and Iraqis and is trying to destroyed the third--Iranians. We should address to all Senators of Jewish origins, particularly to those, who are in Bush Government to stop Bush. By the way, many large Internet editions are rather anti-Semitic (describing the Jewish members of Goverment, they add the word 'Zionist'. We should address all Jewish companies and businesses : not to support Bush. Finally, the meeting itself is not so horrible. It is (expression of William R.Pitt) a "Potemkin village" of peace. But we should watch what happens after the summit.
Yours, Victoria Poupko

Dear JRT,
I understand and respect your position and your arguments.
It is just my strong personal believe that we have no moral right to interfere in making decision that most likely will have a huge effect on other people lives. I think it is immoral to take a hard line position that may have terrible consequences for other people, without personally taking any physical or financial risk.
The Law of Return gives each of us an easy way to become a citizen of Israel and, once you and your family are there, then you will have earned the right to have a say in all the decisions regarding the future of your country (and if that decision is a good one - you and your love ones will benefit from it and if not - you and your love ones will suffer its consequences).

Dear Victor,
Let us assure you that you are mistaken. We love people of Israel. And we put our money where our mouth is. Boston Jewish activists were instrumental in helping to raise money for children of Sderot, abandoned by (as you so precisely state it in your post) corrupt, incompetent, good-for-nothing government one after another.
As far as Haifa Jewish Russian Telegraph is concerned -- this is a great idea, but the above mentioned government would send agents to break our computer equipment and our body parts. You know, consensus in public opinion requires some work. Both Vladimir Putin and Ehud OLmert know it well and don't leave things like this to a chance.
Did you know that Vladimir Albrecht's work on how to handle an interrogation is very popular in Israel. We wonder why. In US, it is, according to Vladimir, completely useless.
Cheers!

From reading many of the JRT published articles and many of its readers comments I get a distinct impression that the JRT & many local Russian-Jewish activists really love Israel (the piece of Land given us by G-d), but not so much the Israeli people (stupid or selfish or naive people that keep electing one corrupt, incompetent, good-for-nothing government after another.)
Personally, I agree with many of JRT's views, but I believe that as long as it is Boston Jewish Russian Telegraph rather than Haifa Jewish Russian Telegraph and as long as we are American-Russian Jews, rather than Israeli-Russian Jews, we have no moral right to tell people of Israel what's good and what's not good for their country.

Dear Victor,
Jerusalem and Land of Israel were given by Almighty to the Jewish people, not to the government of Olmert, some members of which openly proclaim their loyalty to Islam. Don't you think it is quite presumptuous and arrogant for a bunch of corrupt politicians to deal with sworn murderers and terrorists, and organize going out of business sale of the common inheritance of the Jewish people?
Jews of diaspora will no longer be silent. No more automatic support to the government of Israel. No support, unless they do what is good for the Jewish people.
I recommend that you educate yourself on some facts before falling into a familiar, tired groove. Get up to speed on the situation in Sderot. Do you know any other example of a government tolerating shelling of its cities, not responding, and conducting negotiations with the enemy under fire, as if nothing is happening at all?
Such a government looses its legitimacy. Such a government can not be trusted. As Americans, as American Jews, it is our right, indeed, it is our civic duty not to remain silent when witnessing a crime of a historic proportion.

>>A rally to protest the >>Annapolis conference .....
Do you really think that a group of Americans (no matter how involved and well meaning) has a moral right to protest an undertaking that the democratically elected government of another country deems to be in the best interests of its citizens.
I understand demonstrating on behalf of people of Russia or China or Myanmar, but isn't it somewhat arrogant and presumptuous for us to assume the role of protectors of Israeli people from their own democratically elected government.
