PAVEL AND LYALYA (Jerusalem Romance)
by Viktor Kossakovsky, Russia. Massachusetts premiereFilm PAVEL AND LYALYA is a heart wrenching love story. While we hear Lyalya's words of love and devotion as she's helping her incapacitated husband, the camera stays outside the house. It's observing a play of light and shadows on the wall giving the viewer time and space to reflect on this universal story of love and death. As the XXth century leaves the mankind struggling in a world of war, hatred and loneliness, Victor Kossakovsky grants us a rare gift: a pure and beautiful film full of love, sadness and consolation. – Bertrand Bacqué, Visions du réel, Nyon, 2001.
Winner of numerous film festival awards worldwide, including the best film in Neon, Amsterdam, and Edinburgh.
782, UNDER FURTHER NOTICE
by Na’ama Merinberg, IsraelGrace and confidence radiates from every gesture of young woman Yifat. Joy of life springs from 3 little boys and their father, Yedidia, when they work on their remote farm situated on a nameless mountain ‘782’ in Judea. Their quiet determination, love to each other and love to the land they develop overcome the dangers of windstorms and terrorism.
Film director, Na’ama Marinberg is a recent graduate of Ma'ale School of Television, Film and the Arts in Jerusalem, Israel. Since 1989, Maa’le school trains filmmakers to produce work inspired by Jewish heritage, and to create a connection between cinematography and Judaism.
WE LOVE ISRAEL
by Michael Brusilovsky, USA. World premiereIn this third film, camera follows the crowd through the 2004 walk and rally on the streets of Boston. Three generations of Russian-American Jews – back in Russia called rootless cosmopolites in the forties and Zionist enemies in the sixties, recently nicknamed “Russians” in America – children, parents and grandparents demonstrate their unconditional love and support to Israel.
‘We love Israel’, directed by Michael Brusilovsky is a sixth documentary produced on Bosfilm since 2000. Bosfilm is founded by filmmakers from the former USSR. They try to capture extraordinary experiences of Jewish immigration in the last two decades of 20th century, and to reflect upon unique fusion of Russian, Jewish, and Western cultural and intellectual traditions brought to America by this wave of immigrants.
