This is was a great rally. Judging by the presence of the Gush Katif orange t-shirts the ill-fated Gaza abandonment policy of the Sharon's government is not supported by a significant segment of the Jewish community. The growing clout and participation of the Russian Jewish community was demonstrated by a speech made by Ary Rotman, President of the Russian Jewish Community Foundation.
Here are Ary Rotman's remarks:
Good morning!
My name is Ary Rotman and I am President of the Russian Jewish Community Foundation.
Today, I'm speaking on behalf of Russian Jewish activists who are always at the front lines of pro-Israel actions in Boston and across the United States.
In this area we are a 50,000-strong community of successful and proud Americans. We have found a wonderful home in America and are proud of our Jewish heritage. Let me make a statement on behalf of all Russian speaking Jews:
Russian Jews unconditionally support the State of Israel.
We deeply care for Israel.
Russian Jewish WWII veterans, most of whom live on very modest income, raised thousands of dollars to help victims of terror in Israel;
Russian Jews raised enough money to purchase an ambulance that currently operates on the streets of Jerusalem.
Our brethren organize concerts and art shows with all the proceeds going to Israel.
Russian Jews founded Boston for Israel and had the biggest grassroots Walk and Rally for Israel last June at the Boston City Hall plaza.
Today, as never before, Israel needs us and we need Israel.
An ugly wave of anti-Semitism is going across Europe.
So called academics in Britain are practicing the worst possible anti-Semitism.
Islamo-fascists are raising their genocidal head all over the world.
We stand with Israel as Jews.
We stand with Israel as Americans because Israel is at the forefront of America's war against Islamist terror.
Way before Arab terrorists MURDERED 3000 Americans on Sept. 11 they were practicing their skills on the streets of Israeli cities.
We stand united with the people of Israel.
We stand united with the people of Haifa, Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, and of course ----- Gush Katif!
As Jews, and as Americans let us pledge together our unconditional love and support to our brothers and sisters in Israel.
God Bless the Jewish People! God Bless Israel! God bless America!
And now let's say it all together:
AM ISRAEL CHAI! AM ISRAEL CHAI! Am Israel, Am Israel, Am Israel CHAI!
You're great. Thank you very much.
